The design of the split chair was developed from the desire to produce an individual sitting object from planar sheet metal material simply through the single operation of bending. The chair is made up of two pairs of parts forming the seating surface and the back support respectively. The introduction of the split into the design is meant to provide greater ability for the material to flex and support a varying individual's body posture. It provides less rigidity, particularly in the back support while still maintaining overall stability.

Each individual component piece would be plasma cut from a single planar sheet of aluminum and then bent using an automated brake as required to produce the required surfaces and tabs needed for assembly. After fabrication each piece would be powder coated finished to remove scratches / imperfections of the surface and also providing overall protection as well as the desired coloration. The color selection is limited only by the available powder coating options which are vast, many colors may be found in catalog or custom colors can be made to suit.
